Hosts: Don Douglass & Réanne Hemingway Douglass
have logged more than 165,000 miles of cruising in the
past four decades—from 56°S to 60°N latitude—
Cape Horn to Cook Inlet and Shelikof Strait. For the
past 18 years, they have explored the west coast of
North America, documenting over 6,000 places to anchor
or tie up from the Mexican border to the Alaska Peninsula.
They have also chartered in New Zealand and France.
Don and Réanne are the authors of six Exploring
series cruising guides, published by FineEdge.com. Réanne's
classic Cape Horn: One Man's Dream, One Woman's
Nightmare has also been translated in French and
Italian.
Keynote Speaker: Linda Lewis,
Ph.D., a former U of WA Professor of Nursing,
teaches Advanced Coastal Navigation in the USCG Auxiliary.
An avid boater for 40 years (sail & power), Linda
is currently completing her testing for the USCG Captain’s
License (50 Ton Master’s). Linda and her husband,
Dave Parker, cruise the Inside Passage for three months
in the summer on their 45’ trawler (seven times).
They trade the role of Captain each year, sharing all
docking, navigation, and boat handling on a 50-50 basis.
Linda speaks at numerous boat shows and seminars and
is the former leader of the Pacific NW Chapter of Women
Aboard. Her newest interest is in providing on-the-water
training for women on powerboats.
Brian Pemberton has
cruised for over 40 years in both sail and powerboats
along the Pacific coast from Southern California to
Alaska, as well as the Atlantic Coast of France and
Spain. Brian and his wife, Carol own NW Explorations,
a premier charter company comprised of Grand Banks diesel
trawlers, which is now doing successful "Mother
Goose" guided flotillas (see www.nwexplorations.com).
Brian holds a USCG 100-ton license.
Bruce Evertz is a
veteran NW boater, retired Northwest Airlines pilot
and skipper of M/V Tapawingo. For the past
decade Bruce and his wife, Margaret, have been cruising
Northwest waters from Olympia to Glacier Bay and the
west coast of Vancouver Island in their 38' Ocean Alexander.
They have also spent three summers exploring the many
inlets of B.C.'s North Coast.
Bob Duke, author
of Cruising to Alaska: Tips & Tactics from 20
Skippers, has boated worldwide and written more
than 500 articles for national and regional boating
magazines. He has cruised to Alaska five times since
2002 and instructs an afloat Inside Passage training
course for Home Shore charters.
Jim Kyle has completed
over 80 passages between Washington State and Alaska,
having been a commercial fisherman since 1962 and a
charter vessel owner-operator since 1997. The Kyle family
converted its classic wooden fishing vessel, Home
Shore, for passenger service and now offers sea
kayak mothership tours in Alaska and Inside Passage
Training Cruises between Bellingham and Sitka (see www.homeshore.com).
Jim holds a USCG 100-ton license.
Bryan Hennessy, along
with his wife Laura, is the owner of Anacortes Marine
Electronics which specializes in total systems for boats.

Juan/Gulf Islands in their sailboat. AME will host their
second annual Pizza Mixer Saturday night, March 18.
Michael Beemer, owner
of Beemer's Boat Repair which specializes in electrical
systems and watermakers, is a technology and math teacher.
He has been active in educational events linked to marine
technology and is part of the Center for Excellence
in Marine Technology, an Anacortes group planning to
set up a training facility. In summers, he and his family
cruise NW waters in their Skookum motor sailor.
